Get a smooth golf game with Top Dressing Sand

Light and frequent sand topdressing creates smooth, firm putting surfaces.

Golfers want perfect greens so that they can show off their golf skills. The green shouldn’t be too soft or too hard, too wet or too dry. It takes commitment and hard work to keep the correct balance on the greens so that golfers have a firm, smooth, resilient surface for golfing.  Top Dressing is key.

Top Dressing Sand

Since golf courses are made of living material, as the grass grows the surface changes. A great golf course isn’t finished after the initial construction, and golf course superintendents understand that maintenance is part of the game.

Continued maintenance, that includes regular topdressing of the greens, keeps the course looking great. Sanding helps break up thatch, a layer of organic material that builds up over time in the upper root zone. This layer of living and dead roots, crowns and organic debris can cause multiple issues for a golf course. If levels of thatch exceed roughly a half-inch, the greens suffer during extremes of drought and wet periods. The greens might get spongy, or develop brown spots, or become vulnerable to scalping during mowing. Sanding helps protect against all that.

The topdressing sand mixes with the organic layer to promote air and water movement into the soil, which improves degradation of the organic material.

Without regular sand topdressing and aeration, excess organic material will create soft, spongy putting surfaces that hold too much water.
